Principles of Organisational Ecology

The aim of the principles is to create an organisation with a culture and practices based on Organisational Ecology.

The list below describes the principles and provides links to further information relating to each one. Click on the title for more details.

Clear, simple vision The organisation or team needs a few (may be only one), clear statements about what is important. These provide centres of focus around which the activity is based.
Distributed decision-making power Leaders create the framework that allows the organisation to find its own way to the desired goals. Individuals and groups within the organisation will respond to a simple, clear vision within the right environment.
Experimentation with new ideas Trying new ideas enables the organisation (or team) to find the best way of dealing with changing demands.
Embracing failure as well as success  Encouraging new ideas means accepting failure as part of the process as well as celebrating the successes.
Diversity of people Having a range of ideas and opinions is fundamental to finding ways of responding rapidly and effectively.
Right relationships with the world outside The organisation (or team) has to recognise its interactions with those outside. Co-operation (as well as competition) is vital.
Diffuse communications Interaction within the organisation is at the heart of its adaptability. Much of this communication will take place alongside the official channels.

The principles are all available in one document (as a pdf file) - click here to view
